Robin Haase upset top seed David Goffin at Swiss Open

Haase upset Belgium's Goffin 7-5, 6-1 in the last eight of the men's singles event of the Swiss Open tennis competition.

SWITZERLAND: Holland's Robin Haase upset Belgium's David Goffin 7-5, 6-1 in the last eight of the men's singles event of the Swiss Open tennis competition here.

Although Goffin, seeded No.1, recovered from a breakdown, his fight was in vain as he dropped seven straight games, from 5-5 in the first set, to lose for the first time in four matches against Haase on Friday, reports Efe.

The 33-year-old Hasse seeded No.6, who fired nine aces, is now set to play against German Yannick Hanfmann, who got the better of Portuguese Joao Sousa 6-7 (10), 6-2, 6-2.

Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut, seeded no.2, avoided any more surprises, as he safely cruised into the semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Uzbek Denis Istomin.

Bautista Agut conceded his serve once and broke his rival's serve three times out of nine opportunities, to win the match which lasted for one hour and 20 minutes.

World no.18 Bautista Agut is set to play against Italian Fabio Fognini, seeded no.4, who had to dig deep to get past Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
