LONDON: French Open runner-up and seventh seed Dominic Thiem retired with an injury from his Wimbledon first round match on Tuesday against Cypriot veteran Marcos Baghdatis.

Thiem, beaten by Rafael Nadal in Paris last month, was 6-4, 7-5, 2-0 down when he quit.

He is the third top 10 man to lose in the first round after sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov and 10th seeded David Goffin.

Baghdatis, a semi-finalist in 2006, will next face either Karen Khachanov of Russia or Spain's David Ferrer.
