Leander Paes loses in doubles final in France

CHANDIGARH: Top-seeded Leander Paes of India, combining with Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela of Mexico, were beaten in the doubles final by Belgium pair of Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen in the Open Brest ATP Challenger in France on Sunday.

Tied one-set all the Belgium pair clinched the title in super tie-breaker by 10-2. Gille-Vliegen lost the first set at 3-6.

However, they bounced back into the game by winning the second set at 6-4.

The second set was moving with serve but in the 10th game with Reyes-Varela serving was broken despite having three game points in their favour at 40-15.

In tie-breaker Gille-Vliegen pair was on top as they raced to a 10-2 verdict to emerge champions by shocking the top seeded pair of Paes-Reyes-Varela.

Paes-Reyes-Varela won 68 per cent points (32/47) on first service and 53 per cent on second service (9/17).

They saved four out of five break points.

Gille-Vliegen won 81 per cent (35/43)points on first service and 36 per cent (4/11) on second service. They saved three break points out of four.
