HYDERABAD:  In a bid to woo the youth and consolidate their strength in the party, Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi today appointed his younger brother and Power Star Pawan Kalyan as the president of Yuva Rajyam, the youth wing of the party.

After his induction into office, Pawan declared that he would not contest in the next elections and continue acting in films. At a function organised at the party office, Chiranjeevi entrusted the responsibility of building the youth wing to Pawan Kalyan amidst cheers and bursting of crackers by hundreds of fans and followers of the latter.

The party office witnessed a lot of buzz on the occasion of the anointment of Pawan Kalyan. The entire road which leads to the party office swarmed with fans. Even the party office premises were jam-packed with leaders and followers of Pawan.

In their eagerness to have a glimpse of their matinee idol, the fans broke the glass door of the party office and the grill fence before the office also gave in to their force.

Speaking to media later, Chiranjeevi said Pawan Kalyan earned the position on his own and not as his brother. He had social consciousness, his own image and was a good Samaritan, the Mega Star exclaimed.

‘’Right from his childhood, he was different.

When he was studying in the eighth or the ninth standard, he celebrated his birthday with his friends.

After coming out from the cafe, he found some poor people.

He thought that it would have been better to give the money to them instead of spending it on the celebration. From then onwards, he has never celebrated his birthday,’’ recalled Chiranjeevi.

Chiranjeevi said Pawan used to spend his free time with SCs and BCs. He had many friends from those communities, the PRP founder said. Chiranjeevi brushed away the allegation that the PRP was becoming a family estate and stated that his affinity with brother-in-law Allu Aravind went beyond relationship. His brothers Nagendra Babu and Pawan Kalyan were self-made persons, Chiranjeevi said. Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Kalyan said his brother was a humanist to the core. He said he had been awaiting the arrival of such a leaderin politics.

“Two incidents changed my life. When I was in the tenth class, police took me to the station on the pretext that my cycle did not have the dynamo for the light and kept me there for more than seven hours. When I was in the second class, I read about a mine blast which caused a sense of insecurity in me,’’ Pawan Kalyan recollected.

He stated that Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, Martin Luther King and Che Guvera had inspired him. He alleged that the Government was not encouraging such courses of study which would provide employment to the youth.
