ANANTAPUR: In a reprieve to Maddelacheruvu Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, the Anantapur district sessions court today dismissed the case relating to the killing of former mandal president of Kanaganpalli Tagarakunta Prabhakar, a close associate of former TDP legislator late Paritala Ravindra.
Julakanti Srinivas Reddy alias Seenu, who was recently killed in the Anantapur prison, was among the eight others who were accused in the case. Prabhakar’s killing took place on September 5, 2004 at Srinagar Colony in Anantapur. Five months later, Ravi was killed in Anantapur.
Prabhakar was a key associate of Ravi and was also involved in several cases including murder. Prabhakar was standing outside a hair cutting saloon in Srinagar colony when three unidentified person shot him to death and fled on a motorcycle.
Paritala Ravi himself took part in a massive protest in Anantapur the next day.
After the killing of Ravi, two of the accused -- Narayan Reddy and Rekhamaiah -- surrendered before the police and confessed that they were behind the killing of Prabhakar.
Six months after Prabhakar’s killing, police filed a chargesheet in the court on August 19, 2006, with Suri, Moddu Seenu, Vadde Seenu, Vadde Konda, Shivalinga, Narayan Reddy, Rekhamaiah, Bhaskar Reddy, Damodar Reddy and Ramana as accused.
The police brought Suri and five others to the district court amid tight security as the judge reserved the judgment for today. After hearing the arguments till afternoon, Anantapur district sessions judge K Gaddenna today quashed the murder case citing lack of evidence.
