HYDERABAD: Apprehending that incidents like the Mumbai terror attacks in Andhra Pradesh would affect the prospects of the Congress party in the ensuing elections, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy stressed the need to take all precautionary measures to avert such barbaric incidents here.
The Chief Minister reportedly expressed his concern in the presence of his Cabinet colleagues saying there was scope for terrorists to target places like Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Sriharikota.
According to sources, Reddy felt that the terrorists, who didn’t mind losing their lives to achieve their mission, might attack any time, any where.
‘’In these circumstances, we should get fully prepared to face any eventuality.
All types of precautionary steps should be taken to avert such incidents,’’ he reportedly pointed out at the Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat here today. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to initiate measures to reduce prices of essential commodities to avert people’s ire. The existing Cabinet Sub-Committee on Prices should meet regularly to review and monitor the prevailing prices in the open market, he reportedly told the minister concerned, directing him to ensure that prices of essential commodities come down in the near future.
Responding to a point raised by Minister for Agriculture N Raghuveera Reddy about the usage of names like ‘Sujala Sravanthi’ for various irrigation projects taken up under the Jalayagnam programme, the Chief Minister said though such names were coined by the previous TDP Government, there was nothing wrong in using them. Initially, some leaders had also pointed out the usage of yellow colour for ‘Sakshi’, the Telugu daily launched by his son Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister said, adding that yellow colour symbolised auspicious occasions.
With regard to the winter session of the Assembly scheduled to begin from December 1, Reddy directed his Cabinet colleagues to get prepared to answe r t h e issues raised by the Opposition in the House.
The State Cabinet also decided to unveil a statue of the late former Prime Minister, P V Narasimha Rao, on December 27, 2008.
