HYDERABAD: The Congress Party in the Telangana region is divided on the issue of wh e t h e r wh e t h e r Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas should submit his resignation to press the central leadership to clearly spell out its stand on Statehood.

A section of the party opines that resignations by leaders like D Srinivas and Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy would definitely make an impact on the party high command, whereas New Delhi has so far shown no reaction to resignations by state ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and others belonging to the region.

Also, the kind of unity shown in Andhra and Rayalaseema where all parties have joined hands for a ``Samaikyandhra Pradesh'' (United AP State) has yet to be forged in Telangana, they lamented.

On the other hand, some leaders feel there is no need for the PCC president to quit the post on the grounds that this would cut off the line of communication with the party's Central leadership.

In general, the high command consults only the chief minister and the PCC chief before taking decisions. The PCC president's resignation would only cut off a vital link, they say.

They further argue: “Congress MPs and MLAs who have resigned for the Telangana cause can be re-elected by the people. But the post of PCC president is an appointed one.'' In the light of the fluid situation one might not have to wait long to find out who quits what position.
