HYDERABAD: All the 11 candidates who had filed nomination papers for the vacant MLC seats under the MLA quota were declared elected here this afternoon.

Legislature Secretary and Returning Officer for MLC byelections under MLA quota S Raja Sadaram declared the Council results after the nomination withdrawal process came to an end at 3 pm today. Later, he handed over the Certificate of Election (Legislative Council) to the members who got elected unanimously at his chambers in the Assembly.

He also returned Rs 5,000 election deposit to each of the members concerned.

Finance Minister K Rosaiah, KR Amos, N Rajalingam, R Padma Raju, Peer Shabbir Ahmed, K Yadava Reddy (all Congress members) and Nannapaneni Rajakumari (TDP) were among those who received the Certificate of Election from the Returning Officer.

Congress members G Thippe Swamy, S Basava Punnaiah and TDP candidates B Laxmi Narayana and B Venkateswarlu were also declared elected to the MLC posts. All of them (eight Congress and three TDP members) will have a six years term starting from March 30, 2009.

Talking to newsmen later, Rosaiah said that he feels very happy for being elected to the Council for the third time. He thanked Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues for their decision to send him to the Council.

Rosaiah was earlier elected to the council in 1968 and 1974.
