HYDERABAD: The Praja Rajyam has urged the Election Commission of India to allot `Sun with rays around’ or `wheel of a bullock-cart’ as its permanent election symbol. Party leaders C Ramachandraiah and Umamalliswara Rao met EC of ficials in Delhi today and submitted their request.

The party had fought the recent general election with `train engine’ as the election symbol. The party felt that the symbol resembled symbols like `road-roller’ and `tractor’, and confused the voters. The party attributes its poor showing in the elections to this factor. The party has, therefore, decided to go in for a new symbol. With the party acquiring the recognition as a State party, it is entitled to have a permanent symbol.

Since it wants to contest the GHMC elections the PRP has expedited its efforts to get a new permanent symbol of its choice. It is to be seen if the `sun’ will shine on the party or the `wheel’ of fortune turn in its favour at the elections.
