RAJAHMUNDRY: Noted music director of yesteryears Jetti Veera Raghavulu popularly known as JV Raghavulu turned 80 years today.

Raghavulu, a disciple of Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao rendered music to 175 films and established himself as a melody king. His popular songs include `Ee Jeevana Tarangalalo Aa Devudi Charang amlo’ from the film Jeevanatarangalu.

Music director Raghavulu, a native of Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district has settled in Rajahmundry along with his youngest son Syam Sundar. Speaking to Express here today, he said that Ilayaraja, Manisarma and AR Rahman worked with him. Several noted singers, including SP Balasubrahmanyam, P Suseela and others greeted him over phone on his birthday. The veteran music director is leading a simple life in a small house in Mangalavarapupet here and suffering from ill health.

He said that he did not receive any help from the government though he served in the film industry for more than six decades.
