HYDERABAD: Sanatnagar Congress MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy, who is a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been elevated as vice-chairman. The term is for five years.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is the chairman of the NDMA.

His appointment is considered as an indication that he may not be considered for a Cabinet berth in future or for any other posts either speaker of the Assembly or the president of the APCC.

When contacted, he said that he was yet to receive the orders but felt happy that he was elevated.

To a question, he said he had never aspired for any position. "I never lobby or campaign for positions," he said, dismissing reports of his attempts for positions in the state as speculation.
