HYDERABAD: Anantapur faction leader Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy, prime accused in the murder of TDP leader Paritala Ravi, was gunned down by unidentified men in the state capital on Monday evening.

Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelacheruvu Suri suffered three bullet wounds and died after being shifted to a hospital. Police sources said the assailants might be Suri’s own men, bought over by his rivals. Bhanu, one of his associates, is suspected in the murder.

Police sounded alert in the capital for the killers. Security has been tightened for Suri’s rivals, including some politicians. The killing took place in Srinagar Colony, just off the central business district of Hyderabad. Suri and his driver Reddy started out in a Sokda (AP 28 BF 1248) at about 3 pm from Alekhya Apartments in Madhapur, where he used to stay in Hyderabad. Police sources said at least two more persons, believed to be Suri’s associates, were also in the rear seat.

The group headed to Balanagar where Suri had met his lawyer and left the place at around 5 pm. When they reached Ganapathi Complex in Navodaya Colony, Suri was shot thrice.
