VIJAYAWADA: The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre cannot take any decision on Telangana issue unless leaders of various political parties in the state arrived at a consensus on separate state, MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has said.

Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he said the previous NDA regime could not take a decision on Telangana issue due to lack of consensus among the political parties on the issue.  The UPA Government also cannot take any decision on according separate statehood to Telangana as there is no consensus among political parties on the issue, he said.  The MP reminded the letter written by BJP senior leader LK Advani to A Narendra in the past stating that there was no proposal of creating a separate Telangana state. On March 15, 2010, BJP national president Nitin Gadkari said at Nagpur that the party would not support separate Telangana if the UPA Government failed to introduce separate Vidarbha bill along with T bill in Parliament. Now, the BJP is supporting bifurcation of the state for political gains, he said. Rajagopal urged different sections of people, including employees, students and teachers of both the regions, to discuss the issue to come to an understanding.

Refuting Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao charge that he was against bifurcation of the state to protect his properties in Hyderabad, the MP said he was ready to give all his properties in the state capital to the TRS chief if he stopped demanding separate Telangana state.
