HYDERABAD: Prof Kothapalli Jayashankar, 77, who passed away at his residence in Warangal on Tuesday morning, was known to the people of the country as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) ideologue.
He fought against regional imbalances and injustice. He dedicated his life to the Telangana cause and always argued that because it had been denied the rightful share of river waters, it remained underdeveloped.
Born on August 6, 1934 at Akkampet village in Atmakur mandal in Warangal district, he did MA in Economics from the Aligarah Muslim University and Ph.D at the Osmania University.
He worked as principal of CKM College from 1975 to 79 and as registrar of Kakatiya University from 1979 to 81. He also served as vice-chancellor of Kakatiya University during 1991-94.
Jayashankar played a key role in the birth of TRS.
He also played an active role in Delhi and influenced political parties into espousing the Telangana cause.
