JAGGAMPET (East Godavari): It’s official. The late YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s new party will have the Congress tag. YSR Congress it shall be, announced Jagan at a massive public meeting here today.
The party’s flag will be hoisted at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district at 2.29 pm on Saturday. It will have three colours, blue, white and green.
YSR obviously refers to YS Rajasekhara Reddy but it’s also an abbreviated form for Yuvajana, Sramika, Rytu. The agenda of YSR Congress will be announced only after by-elections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies.
“As the model code of conduct for MLC elections is in force now, we will announce the party’s agenda after the byelections,” Jagan said. “The new party will bring back smiles all around,” he claimed.
The Election Commission has not yet announced the bypoll schedule. It means, the new party’s agenda could be finalised after two months. “We will have a two-day brainstorming session before finalising the policies,” Jagan said.
Jagan will officially launch the party at a public meeting in Idupulapaya, where YSR was buried, after the by-elections.
The young man, who quit the Congress revolting against AICC president Sonia Gandhi, had been considering the name YSR Congress for long but a certain K Shiva Kumar from Nalgonda registered a party with the same name.
The Jagan group held discussions with him and has taken over the party.
