HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer K Durga Prasad will take charge as the director, Special Protection Group (SPG) in New Delhi on Wednesday morning.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the orders on Monday which were communicated to the state government on Tuesday and Durga Prasad was relieved immediately.

He was posted as additional DGP, Sports, here.

Sources said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has cleared Durga Prasad's name for the prestigious post on Monday.

Durga Prasad was asked to take charge of his assignment immediately as outgoing SPG director BV Wanchoo retired from service on Tuesday.

Sources said Durga Prasad decided to take charge on Wednesday, an auspicious day.
