HYDERABAD: Besides launching Indira Jala Prabha programme, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch various projects and schemes worth Rs. 1,214 crore, including laying of foundation stone for new broad guage (BG) railway line from Rayadurg to Thumkur via Kalyandurg costing Rs. 970.34 crore, during his visit to Rayadurg in Anantapur district on Friday.

The new BG railway line between Tumkur and Rayadurg (207.65 km) via Kalyandurg, Madakasira and Pavagada, was sanctioned in 2008-09.

The project costing Rs. 970.34 crore will be executed on 50:50 cost sharing basis between Railways and the governments of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The new line will reduce the journey time from the present seven hours to four hours and will save a distance of 146 km between Rayadurg and Chennai.

Reddy will also lay the foundation stone for a 132 KV sub-station at Obulapuram village and distribute assets to self-help groups (SHGs), an official release said here.

Union minister for railways Dinesh Trivedi, Union minister of state for railways KH Muniappa and several state leaders would participate in the function.
