MP for CBI probe into Polavaram bid deal

Express News Service

Peddapalli MP G Vivekananda on Thursday appealed to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to order a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the sanctioning of the financial bids relating to  construction of the Polavaram irrigation project.

Addressing mediapersons at the CLP office here on Thursday,  Vivekananda alleged that there could be quid pro quo in the finalisation of financial bids quoted by the consortium of Soma CGGC as “the two companies, Soma CGGC and SEW Infra Patel, had a tacit understanding on enhancing the estimated cost”.

Though the award of earlier tenders was cancelled and fresh bids called, only Soma CGGC and SEW Infra Patel, which were chosen as L2 and L1 respectively last time, were finalised again for the final positions, he pointed out and alleged a tacit understanding between the two bidders.

He also demanded that the entire design of should be changed as constructing a huge dam would displace lakhs of tribal people and cause ecological disaster. It would be better to construct a series of barrages instead of a huge dam at Polavaram, e suggested.
