Commotion at Parkal bypoll review meet

Followers of government chief whip created a ruckus at a meet organized by Congress party at Parakal on Sunday to analyse the cause of the party’s drubbing at the hustings recently.

The photo of Venkata Ramana Reddy, printed on the flexi, which appeared very small in comparison with ministers, was the reason behind the ire of the followers of the chief whip.Even before the meeting began, followers of state government chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy hurled chairs into the air at Swarna Gardens, venue of the meeting, much to the embarrassment of the Congress’ state leadership.

Slogan-shouting supporters of Venkata Ramana Reddy abused  information technology minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah and BC welfare minister B Saraiah holding them responsible for the party’s poor show. Sambari Samma Rao, the vanquished candidate, ministers Ponnala, Saraiah and Warangal MP Siricilla Rajaiah were present.

The chief whip did not reach the venue at the time of the commotion.The chief whip’s followers demanded that both the ministers own responsibility.

The police intervened swiftly and took the followers of Venkata Ramana Reddy into custody. Later, supporters of the chief whip staged a dharna in front of the police station at Parkal, demanding the release of their arrested colleagues.
