Government cancels 10,760 acre land allotment to Brahmani

The state government on Thursday approved cancellation of the allotment of 10,760.66 acres land to Brahmani Steels Limited (BIL) in Kadapa district in June, 2007, when the late YS Rajasekahra Reddy was the chief minister.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s decision is being seen as driving the final nail into the coffin of BIL, promoted by ex-Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy who is now in jail in connection with the illegal iron ore mining by his Obulapuram Mining Company in Anantapur district.

Kiran Reddy, after a review of the status of the land allotted to the BIL with officials at his camp office, cancelled the allotment.

This lowers the curtain on the hopes of youth in Kadapa district that there would be employment opportunities for them.

The land alienated was at Vmuguntapalli and a few other villages in Jammalamadugu mandal in Kadapa district and a green field steel plant were to come up there.

The CAG also described the land allotment as “injudicious”.
