Comedian AVS passes away

Tollywood comedian and character artiste Amanchi Venkata Subramanyam aka AVS, (56) famous for ‘Tuti’ dialogue, passed away at his residence here  on Friday evening.

Tollywood comedian and character artiste Amanchi Venkata Subramanyam aka AVS, (56) famous for ‘Tuti’ dialogue, passed away at his residence here  on Friday evening.

He has been suffering from liver related health disorder for quite some time. He was admitted to Global Hospitals last week.

As his condition deteriorated, doctors declared his case as “hopeless” and asked the family to take him home on Friday evening, family sources said. He breathed his last an hour after being taken home.

Born to Veera Raghavaiah and Shiva Kameshwari in Tenali on January 2, 1957, AVS made his film debut with ‘Mister Pellam’ directed by Bapu in 1993 and went on to bag Nandi Award for his very first film.

A veteran of nearly 500 films, he was multi-talented personality, who also produced couple of films - ‘Uncle’ and ‘Ori Ni Prema Bangaram Kanu’. He even directed the latter along with another three films including ‘Super Heroes’, ‘Roommates,’ ‘Kothimuka.’ Some of the popular films he acted include ‘Subhalagnam,’ ‘Mayalodu,’ and ‘Yamaleela.’

AVS served as general secretary of the Movie Artistes Association for three terms. He was a writer and journalist before joining the films. Several personalities from film industry condoled his demise. 

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed his sorrow over passing away of AVS and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.

Information and public relations minister DK Aruna, opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu and other politicians also mourned the actor.
