Smoke from engine halts Shalimar Express

The Chennai-Shalimar superfast express halted for nearly 20 minutes at the railway station here on Sunday after smoke started emanating from the engine.

According to the railway authorities, the driver noticed smoke emanating from the engine breakpoint a few minutes before reaching Ongole at 2:25 pm. Immediately, he informed the station authorities about it. Following the alert, railway authorities pressed the electrical and mechanical engineers into service, who rectified the problem within 15 minutes. They also informed the railway authorities in Chennai and Vijayawada about it. Later, the express train was allowed to leave Ongole.
