Express News Service

The people in Peddapuram Assembly constituency face many problems such as pollution, drinking water and traffic since many years. They are fed up with the bad quality and erratic supply of drinking water by the municipality. The old pipelines between Samalkot and Peddapuram have been damaged and have several leakages due to which drain water enters them in some areas causing diseases.

Though the government has taken measures to ensure supply of water from  Godavari river, no steps have been initiated so far to arrest the leakages or even replace the damaged pipelines. With this, the people are forced to drink the contaminated water in many areas.

Another problem is industrial pollution which gives rise to many health hazards. The ash generated from the nearby power plants and effluents from topacia, oil, medical, package and other industries from the industrial estate is creating panic among people and ruining their health.

The industries too have not taken any initiatives to combat the problem. As the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation’s (APIIC) industrial corridor is on the outskirts of the town, the people demand the shifting of industries to places far away from highly-populated areas in the city.

Traffic is also posing problems to the people. As Peddapuram is on the way to Kakinada, many buses and other vehicles pass through the narrow main road which leads to frequent traffic jams in the town.

The historical town, is lagging behind in many aspects and elected representatives have failed to address the problems.
