GIET Granted Autonomous Status

Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) has been granted autonomous status.

RAJAHMUNDRY: Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) has been granted autonomous status.

The GIET, established in 1998, is the first engineering college in East Godavari district to get the autonomy. There are about 32 engineering colleges in the district.

The GIET can now design its academic curriculum, conduct examinations, introduce new courses and evaluate examination papers. The GIET has its own controller of examinations.

It has 4,000-student strength and offers eight M.Tech courses.

In 2006, the GIET received National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and got UGC recognition later. It got permanent affiliation to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK) in 2013 and obtained “A” grade NAAC recognition in the same year.

GIET general manager D Subba Raju told TNIE that plans were afoot to get deemed university status next year or in 2016.

The GIET is having necessary faculty and infrastructure to become a deemed university, he said.
