Asian Chess Priyanka Feted by DPS

Delhi Public School (DPS) principal K Praveen complimented chess prodigy Nutakki Priyanka for winning the gold medal in the Asian Under -12 Girls Rapid Chess Championship recently.

VIJAYAWADA: Delhi Public School (DPS) principal K Praveen complimented chess prodigy Nutakki Priyanka for winning the gold medal in the Asian Under -12 Girls Rapid Chess Championship recently.

Priyanka was felicitated by the school management here Saturday. She  was also presented with a laptop. Priyanka, a Class 7 student of the school, won the gold and bronze medals in the standard and blitz segments in the Under-12 category during the  chess championship.

She scored 6.5 points in seven rounds and defeated the top seed and Women FIDE Master from Kazakhstan in the standard segment. She won the bronze medal by gathering 5.5 points in seven rounds in the blitz segment.

Priyanka said her parents’ love and motivation were behind her achievement. She started playing chess at the age of nine under the guidance of coach VR Abbas and practised the game for eight hours a day but never compromised on her studies. “I would go to school two months before the examinations and prepare with my teachers’ support,” she added.

N Radha Krishna and N Durga Devi, parents of Priyanka, added, “We have always want to make one of our daughters a chess champion. We are proud of her and her achievement.” Priyanka has already bagged several gold medals at national and international events.
