Water and development are the two issues that will matter most during the elections for Bhuvanagiri (Bhongir) Lok Sabha constituency, that came into existence in 2008 as per Delimitation Act, 2002.

The constituency, which comprises Bhongir, Alair, Janagaon, Thugathurthi, Nakrekal, Munugode and Ibrahimpatnam is represented by Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy of the Congress. The most important issue issue in the constituency is that of water--drinking and irrigation.  Several projects, though taken up in 2008, are yet to materialise.

Construction of the Bhunadhigani canal, Pillaipally canal, Dharmareddy canal started in 2008 but their completion cannot be expected any time soon. If completed, the projects will help irrigate 40,000 acres and also address the drinking water issues in the villages between Bhongir and Suryapet.

Although Bhongir is in close proximity to Hyderabad, the constituency has not seen much development over the years. Unemployed youth are reluctant to leave their native areas and go to Hyderabad due to the high cost of living.

Several other projects are yet to commence. NIIMS, for which the foundation stone was laid in 2005 by then chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, is only partially complete. In spite of various political agitations, there has been no progress in the works.

Though the Centre had approved the setting up of CCMB in Bibinagar in 2009, the project still lies in the pipeline.

Muslims, who constitute a considerable number in the electorate, are demanding Shadikhanas and burial grounds in all mandal headquarters.
