Express News Service

VISAKHAPATNAM: The city police and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation officials have made necessary arrangements for Ganesh Nimajjanam ceremony on Monday. They have identified 16 areas for immersion in the city, which includes the stretch between Rushikonda Beach and Fishing Harbour, Meghadrigedda Lake and few other water bodies.

Nearly 1,000 Ganesh idols have been set up in the city this year, of which a majority have been immersed in the past few days. Revealing the details of the security arrangements put in place here Sunday, additional deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu said that around 140 police personnel would monitor the immersion from Rushikonda to Fishing Harbour, as many idols are expected to be immersed along the coastline.

The police force would be deployed at other water bodies, considering the number of idols in the frontier regions. The marine police would also participate in the programme and 36 swimmers have been kept ready. One-way traffic system would be implemented on the Beach Road and the idols would be allowed only from the Park Hotel route and AIR road. Further, idols 10 feet tall and above would be immersed only in the Fishing Harbour area and devotees will not be allowed to venture into the sea, he informed.
