VISAKHAPATNAM: To fight against the injustice meted out to workers and their rights by the central and the state governments, the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) is all set to join hands with fellow trade unions to launch a united fight. The CITU will hold district level conventions across Andhra Pradesh in May and is likely to go on a general strike to fight against the amendments to labour laws.
CITU state general secretary MA Gafoor who was in the city to attend the state council meeting held here Monday, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu are amending labour laws for the benefit of corporate companies. He said that both the leaders are encouraging corporates to loot the nation apart from ruining the lives of many.
In a scathing attack on the anti-labour policies of the centre and the state governments, Gafoor alleged that Narendra Modi was proposing to deny provident fund and ESI facility to industrial workers and also increasing maximum working hours from eight hours a day, while Chandrababu Naidu was a step ahead and making amendments to various labour laws without consulting the stakeholders. Gafoor has called for a united effort from all the trade unions to protect the rights of the working class.
