HYDERABAD:After months long dilemma, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states have finally took the first step towards resolving the controversy around admissions to Dr B R Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU). On Saturday, both the states decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to hold common admission for both the states.
In a letter addressed to BRAOU, the AP education department agreed to discuss with the university officials regarding admissions. On Monday, the officials from higher education department of both the states and university will hold a meeting on admission schedule and the fate of its around 92 study circles in AP.
Prof A Sudhakar, registrar, BRAOU, told Express, “Fresh admission schedule for both the states would be released once the MoU is finalised.” However, there are some other issues which need to be sorted out before both the states come to an understanding on this, he added.
According to the tenth schedule of Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation Act, the university is still common for both the states. Like other institutes under the tenth schedule, it has to conduct common admissions for both the states.
The university should also get funds from both the states based on population ratio. However, the university claimed that it has not received any funds from AP government after bifurcation. “The AP government also didn’t respond to university’s letters when we asked if they want to conduct separate entrance test for their students,” the Registrar said.
It may be recalled that, the BRAOU authorities recently released admission notification only for Telangana. While the university still remains common for both the states, this move triggered tension among students from AP. As a result, both the states are now likely to hold common admissions for this academic year.
