Prisoner Escapes from KGH Prison Ward

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a scene straight out of a movie, an under trail prisoner cut off the rods of the bathroom window and escaped from the Prison Ward in Rajendra Prasad Ward of King George Hospital (KGH) in the early hours of Sunday.

He was undergoing treatment for a liver problem. G Sanyasi Rao (30), is a native of Kottayathota village of Anantagiri mandal of Visakhapatnam agency. According to the police, Sanyasi Rao allegedly killed his father-in-law in a rage and was sent on remand to the central prison since December 2013.

Sanyasi Rao was suffering from chronic liver ailments for some time, and was admitted to King George Hospital on March 7, under armed escort including four constables and one head constable from the armed reserve wing of police force.

Sources said that the prisoner had gone to the bathroom at around 6.20 am Sunday and escaped through the window by cutting the rods.

Commissioner of Police Amit Garg, through an official release said that the police have formed four special teams to nab Sanyasi Rao. A case has been registered against the responsible constables and they would be suspended, he added.
