Bankers' Help Sought in Stimulating Agricultural Growth

GUNTUR: Agriculture Minister P Pulla Rao has sought the help of bankers in improving the growth rate in the agriculture and allied sectors.

Participating in a district level bankers meeting here Monday, he released the annual credit plan of Rs 14,617.14 crore for the 2015-16 financial year.  It was 17.02 per cent more than the target of credit for the 2014-15 financial year.

As per the credit plan, Rs 9,182.54 crore has been set as target for the agriculture and allied sectors, Rs 1,729.17 crore for the industrial sector and Rs 1,729.17 crore for other priority sectors. As much as Rs 2,001.14 crore has been set as target for non-priority sectors.

The minister expressed happiness over Guntur being first to release the credit plan for the financial year 2015-16. He said fisheries has become a profitable sector and efforts are on to develop agriculture and other allied sectors in a similar manner. “Bankers have to lend liberally to make this happen,” he said.

In-charge collector Ch Sridhar, Andhra Bank DGM L Girish Kumar, RBI AGM Rana Sahu, NABARD DGM AV Bhavani Shankar, LDM Srinivasa Sastry and others were present.
