NAGARJUNASAGAR  (NALGONDA): It is common practice for devotees to throng to ghats, located near popular shrines during Pushkarams, but officials in Nalgonda district are stumped as people are giving preference to ghats near the popular tourist destination Nagarjunasagar rather than those located at Mattapally and Vadapally which have famous temples.

The district administration had arranged for 28 Pushkar ghats in Nalgonda and expected heavy rush at Wadapally, Mattapally followed by Nagarjunasagar.

Keeping this in view, officials constructed 12 ghats in Wadapally, three in Mattapally and four in Nagarjunasagar.

Official figures however reveal that most of the pilgrims are visiting Nagarjunasagar for the past five days to take the holy bath.

Nagarjunasagar has many tourist attractions and after taking a dip, devotees are visiting the dam, launch station, Buddhavanam and power house.

Officials say that the other reason why people are preferring this tourist hotspot is because it is easily accessible while the important ghats of Mattapally and Wadapally are remotely located.
