HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was astonished at the way Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, a riverfront city, was built with many futuristic buildings and skyscrapers on the banks of Ishim River.

Naidu, who embarked on a four-day visit to  Russia to attend the Annual Industrial Trade Fare INNOPROM- 2016 to be held at Yekaterinburg,  made a stopover at Astana on Saturday.

Later, he met Kazakhstan defence minister Imangali Tasmagambetov, who was the mayor of capital city when it was being built. “Like you people, we too have been forced to construct a new capital city for our state, now. I am constructing a new capital, Amaravati, on the banks of River Krishna. We want to learn some lessons from your personal experience,” Naidu said.

According to CMO officials, earlier, Naidu’s team reached Almaty, the largest metropolis in Kazakhstan.  Almaty, set in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, had served as the Kazakhstan’s capital until 1997.
