AU students boycott breakfast at hostels over poor quality food

VISAKHAPATNAM: IRKED with the authorities for their delayed response to the demands quality food at the hostels, students of Andhra University boycotted their morning breakfast on Friday.

As many as 70 students of Viveka Vinyasa and Sri Krishna Devaraya blocks (Science college hostels) assembled at the varsity registrar’s office at around 9 am and shouted slogans against the administration. The protesting students also submitted a representation to the CV Raman, principal of College of Science and Technology. The students alleged that their persistent pleas over the poor quality of food being served at hostel went unheard by the authorities.

“Apart from unhygienic food, we are unable to avail of the reading rooms and other facilities at our hostels. As a protest, we did not go to the hostel mess for breakfast,” said, a second year M.Sc Geography student. The principal tried to pacify the protesters. “The issue will be addressed within the next 10 days. We will ensure that students are provided with quality food,” he promised.
