16 labourers injured in accident

ELURU: A truck carrying 30 labourers, of Kolleru Lanka village of Krishna and West Godavari districts to Pothunuru village overturned near Satyanarayanapuram village of Denduluru mandal in West Godavari district on Tuesday morning, seriously injuring 16 on board.

Police said that the DCM truck, carrying the laborers, halted on the road margin to take diversion to Pothunuru when it was hit by a speedy cement load lorry, travelling to Rajamahendravaram from Vijayawada, near Satyanarayanapuram village on the national highway in the early hours of Tuesday. As a result, the truck overturned and the labourers fell out of the vehicle.

Sixteen labourers were seriously injured while the rest suffered minor injuries. They were on their way to fishing work at Pothunuru village in Denduluru Mandal.

The national highway’s ambulance reached the spot and shifted the seriously injured to Eluru Government Hospital. The accident led to a traffic jam on the national highway which was later cleared by the highway patrolling personnel.

Meanwhile, the Denduluru MLA and government whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar reached government hospital and consoled the family members. Eluru DSP, G Venkateswara Rao, also reached the hospital to gather details of the accident from the labourers.
