Four youngsters arrested for stealing vehicles

VISAKHAPATNAM: The police on Monday arrested four youngsters including an inter-state burglar who were involved in several motorcycle, cars thefts and robberies reported here in the city.

In one case, the IV Town police arrested two youngsters-S Manoj Kumar (20) and N Devi Prasad (19), both residents of Saligrampuram and habitual offenders-for stealing four motorcycles and robbing a department store.

The duo made good with `3,000 in cash and several mobile re-charge coupons worth `5,000. The stolen bikes were recovered, DCP (Crime) T Ravi Kumar Murthy told the media here.

In another case, the III Town police arrested one A Ganesh (28), a resident of Peda Waltair, who stole a Tata Indica Vista car from Anakapalle on June 24. The DCP said that the accused, an ex-offender, was involved in several crimes reported since 2006.

In the third case, the MVP police arrested one Surendran Ramaswamy, a native of Sendamangalam, Tamil Nadu, on charge of stealing a Tata Bolt car from the Sector-8 of MVP Colony in May first week .

All the accused have been sent to remand.

Motorist gets jail in drunk driving case

Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate M Venkata Rao awarded three-day imprisonment to a 38-year-old motorist TN Rao in a drunken driving case on Monday. ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu said the IV Town police caught TN Rao on June 25 while he was driving his new bike with a temporary registration number under the influence of alcohol near Dondaparthi. This is the fifth case of imprisonment awarded for drunken driving in the city this year.
