HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been been mentioning Amaravati’s ancient past and invoking Lord Buddha to strike a chord with the Chinese investors during his ongoing visit to the Communist nation, on Wednesday banked on ‘Guntur mirchi’ to woo Chinese entrepreneurs and leaders.

After knowing that Guizhou Province in China too produces special variety of red chillies akin to Guntur mirchi, Naidu tried to win over the vice-governor of the province by drawing parallels between Guntur mirchi and Guizhou chillies.

“Our Guntur district, where our new capital city Amaravati is being built, is famous for chilli production. There is a huge demand for Guntur chillies throughout the world. Guizhou province and Andhra Pradesh can collaborate to increase chilli production,” Naidu told Qin Ru Pei, vice governor of the Guizhou Province, during his breakfast meeting with him, held at Guiyang City, the capital of the province, located in Southwest China.

The chief minister later held a meeting with Eric, vice-president of OPPO, which manufactures mobile phones. OPPO has one manufacturing facility in Noida.

According to CMO officials, the executives of the firm had showed interest to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the state, which would create employment to 25,000 people. The company representatives will visit AP in July to scout for land.

Later, the state government and Guizhou Province signed an MoU for ‘Sister- state agreement’ that would pave way to boost investments opportunities in both places.

Chen Miner, secretary of Guizhou Provincial Committee Communist Party of China welcomed Naidu and his delegation.

Earlier, China’s South Huiton Company Limited, a government-owned company operating in sewerage and treatment, along with KEDA Company limited, expressed their interest to invest in AP.
