HYDERABAD: Nirosha, an anchor with a Telugu music channel, whose wedding with an NRI was scheduled to be held in a few months,  committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of her hostel after a long conversation with her fiance over Skype. The incident took place at Sindhi Colony in Ramgopalpet police limits on Wednesday.

Nirosha, was a native of Malleswarapuram village in Somala mandal in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

Though TV channels reported that she took the extreme step after a fight with her fiance, the police said Nirosha ended her life unable to bear severe stomach pain, quoting preliminary postmortem reports and her father’s version.

Police said that the 23-year-old had been in love with one Rithwik Reddy, based in Canada, for a couple of years and their wedding was scheduled for next month. Rithwik is pursuing his MS.

On Tuesday night, she had a chat with Rithwik over Skype for more than 30 minutes and later she hanged herself to death with her duppatta. She is believed to have threatened suicide during her chat with Rithwik.

“Soon after we received information regarding her suicide, we rushed to the place and recovered the body.  She had a long chat with her fiance over Skype after which she hanged herself,” said Mohammed Waheeduddin, inspector, Ramgopalpet. Krishna Mohan, the investigating officer,  said they have collected chat details and call data from Nirosha’s Skype account and there were no disputes between them.

“I have been suffering from severe stomach pain for the past few years and there was no recovery even after getting proper treatment. Please promise me that you will take care of my parents and brother” was the last message from Nirosha to Rithwik Reddy via skype.

Nirosha came to the city four years ago and started her career as a reporter by working in vernacular TV channels. Seven months ago, she joined a music channel as an anchor. Her father Radhakrishna confirmed that there were no disputes between Nirosha and her fiance. On Tuesday, she called him around 10 pm and informed that she was suffering from stomach pain.
