Naidu’s security beefed up after threats from Maoists

VIJAYAWADA: In the wake of the threats from the Maoists, the State government has enhanced the security to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

At present, the chief minister has a security cover with 196 police personnel, the same will grow to 486 now, with the sanctioning of 290 additional posts.

Though, the home department has put the requisition for the sanctioning of the additional posts by August 30, 2018, the state cabinet approved the same in October last week, with the Maoists issuing warnings to the chief minister, following the encounter in Malkangiri district of Odisha along the Andhra- Odisha Border (AOB).

On Thursday, the finance department gave a nod and issued an order for creation of 290 more posts to the Chief Minister’s Security Group (CMSG) in the Intelligence department to ensure a fool-proof security to Naidu at Vijayawada, Hyderabad and other places while he is on tour.

In the combined Andhra Pradesh, as many as 338 personnel used to provide security cover to the chief minister. But, following the bifurcation, a total of 196 security personnel were allocated to the chief minister of the residual state of Andhra Pradesh, while the remaining allotted to the Telangana chief minister.
