VISAKHAPATNAM: The death toll of Maoists continues to be on the rise. In a fresh encounter that took place in the early hours of Thursday, police forces have gunned down two more Maoists in Malkangiri forests of Odisha on the Andhra-Odisha border taking the total toll to 30.

Speaking to Express,  Visakhapatnam SP Rahul Dev Sharma said that the two new deaths were confirmed by their colleagues who are participating in the combing operations. HOwever, there is no
confirmation if the bodies recovered during the combing operations were casualties of the latest encounter that took place on Thursday or the previous ones.

Sources said that the combing operations by the police forces were being conducted to restrict the movement of the left wing extremists in the forest area. While 24 Maoists were killed in the first round of encounter on Monday, four others were killed on Tuesday.
