VISAKHAPATNAM  : Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral HCS Bisht inaugurated a state-of-the-art damage control training facility ‘Avjit’ here on Thursday.

The naval officials said that the Avjit, a third in the series of training simulators, constructed for the Indian Navy by Goa Shipyard Ltd, has a dynamic simulator, which simulates ship motions, compartment flooding, failure of electrical power and machinery, thus providing a real-time environment to ship’s crew for carrying out urgent repairs to damaged underwater hull and ruptured pipelines of ships at sea.

INS Vishwakarma, a premier training establishment of the Indian Navy, is located at Visakhapatnam for training Naval Constructor Officers, Shipwright Officers and Hull Artificers in warship design, construction and hull maintenance.

Besides, refresher training in Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence and Damage Control (NBCD), fire fighting is also conducted in the establishment for personnel of the ENC.

Induction of the new training simulator at INS Vishwakarma now adds a new dimension to the NBCD training of ship crew, as it will significantly enhance skill levels of naval personnel in carrying out emergency repairs to damaged underwater hull of ships in adverse conditions at sea, the officials opined.
