VISAKHAPATNAM: Despite heavy rains lashing isolated places in coastal A P and moderate rain being reported from Rayalaseema, many places in the state reeled under sweltering heat conditions on Monday.
The highest temperature of 37 degrees Celsius was recorded in Vijayawada, Bapatla, Tuni and Machilipatnam followed by 36 degree Celsius at Ongole and Anantapur. However, heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Prakasam district, recording the highest rainfall of 7 cm at Addanki, followed by 6 cm at Jangamaheswarapuram in Guntur district, 5 cm at Venkatagiri in Nellore district, Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district, Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district,
The weathermen said the upper air cyclonic circulation over south Jharkhand and its neighbourhood now lies over north Chhattisgarh, extends up to 4.5 km above the mean sea level and is tilting southwards.
Further, another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over North Interior Karnataka and its neighbourhood at 5.8 km above the mean sea level. The trough on sea level chart too runs from Chhattisgarh to south Tamil Nadu across coastal AP and Rayalaseema. “Under the influence of the cyclonic circulations, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at an over coastal AP and Rayalaseema in the next 24 hours,” said an IMD official.
