GUNTUR: The GMC organised Domalapai Dandayatra campaign in municipal corporation schools in the city on Tuesday. Students participated in an awareness rally organised in the city as part of the campaign, highlighting the need to curb mosquito menace.

Speaking on the occasion, GMC Commissioner Ch Anuradha said people should keep their houses and surroundings clean to prevent breeding of mosquitoes as it helps check the outbreak of vector-borne diseases.

As part of ‘Domalapai Dandayatra’, the GMC set up 34 teams to promote awareness among people about hygiene. Each team covers 50 houses a day and educate people on preventive measures to be taken to keep seasonal diseases at bay.

An awareness would also be created among people about the hazards of indiscriminate dumping of garbage in culverts and drains and on road margins as part of the campaign. Besides organising the awareness campaign, the GMC also took measures to curb mosquito menace.

Fogging and anti-larval operations were intensified to prevent the growth of mosquitoes, the Municipal Commissioner said.  GMC Additional Commissioner K Ramachandra Reddy, Deputy Commissioner M Srinivas Rao and other officials participated in the rally.
