GUNTUR: An assistant professor of Katuri Medical College in Prathipadu allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his quarter on the college campus on Friday night.

According to police, Nalabothu Sandeep Krishna (33) of Vijayawada who specialises in Pulmonology, joined the medical college as faculty along with his wife Bhavana, a general surgeon, on June 22. The couple got married eight months ago.

On Friday afternoon, Bhavana left the quarter to go to a scanning centre along with her grandfather who was suffering from some illness and got him diagnosed. On her return, she found the quarter door shut. When she knocked at the door and called her husband, there was no response from inside. She grew suspicious and broke open the door with the help of her neighbours, only to find her husband hanging from the ceiling fan. She immediately informed the matter to police. Though the reason for Sandeep Krishna’s extreme step is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that he might have committed suicide due to depression.

The police recovered a suicide note from the spot. Though the police contacted his parents who are in Gujarat, and informed the news of their son’s suicide, they could not get any additional information. Prathipadu Sub-Inspector S Srinivas registered a case.
