Sunday trip turns tragic as 2 youth drown off Rushikonda Beach, two others rescued

VISAKHAPATNAM: A fun trip of a group of six youngsters to Rushikonda Beach on Sunday turned tragic as two of them drowned after they went for a swim. The two other members of the group were rescued by community guards.

The deceased have been identified as Rahul Pandit and Noval Upadya, both residents of Hyderabad aged between 25 and 30 years.

A group of six youngsters, all employees of Karachi Bakery in Diamond Park, went to the Rushikonda beach on a trip. Four of them- Rahul Pandit, Noval Upadya, Akbeer Hussain and Faisalladdin-entered into the water for a swim. They were pulled in by strong waves at around 8.15 am, said PM Palem police inspector K Lakshmana Murthy.

Seeing them drowning, the beach visitors raised an alarm and the community guards swung into action. Rahul and Noval drowned, while Akbeer and Faisalladdin were brought to the shore by the guards.
The bodies of Rahul and Noval were fished out of the water after a while.

Police said that Akbeer Hussain was admitted to a hospital and he was stated to be out of danger. The PM Palem police have registered a drowning case and took up the investigation.
