Monsoon weak but state receives isolated rainfall

VISAKHAPATNAM: With the southwest monsoon remaining weak over the state for almost about a week, isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh recorded light rainfall, while almost dry weather prevailed over Rayalaseema on Thursday.

In coastal Andhra Pradesh, the precipitation was confined to Srikakulam and Krishna district. Pathapatnam in Srikakulam district recorded a rainfall of around 3 cm, the highest in the state, followed by Itchapuram (2 cm) and Sompeta (1 cm), in the same district. Nuzvid in Krishna district received a precipitation of 1 cm.

However, the weathermen said that the weak monsoon might gain its vigour in the coming days, triggering rain. The trough on the sea level chart running from Chhattisgarh to South Tamil Nadu continues across Telangana and Rayalaseema at present. “Under its influence, light to moderate rain and thundershower activities are expected at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema in the next few days,” said an IMD official.
