VIJAYAWADA: The sleepy village of Velagapudi in Amaravati is going to witness hectic activity from Monday with the commencement of budget session of the AP Legislative Assembly and Council at the new Assembly building.
The budget session will start on Monday morning with Governor ESL Narasimhan addressing the joint session of the Assembly and Council. Velagapudi now became the centre of attraction as people of AP are looking towards the village where their representatives set to raise their voice.
“We are delighted to know that public representatives across the State are visiting our village and going to take decisions over public issues from the Legislative Houses, which was built on agriculture land,” said Narasimhulu, a farmer from Velagapudi.
With only a few hours left for the maiden meet of the Legislative Houses, workers are busy making all arrangements. Apart from taking up the installation of name plates at the chambers allocated for Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, Chief Whips and Whips, the staff also seen cleaning the tables and seats of the members.
Opposition YSRC leaders, including Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, Md Mustafa, former Minister K Parthasarathi, visited the new Assembly building and tested the mike installed on the table of YSRC chief and Opposition Leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. After finding that there are no fans in the Legislative Houses, a YSRC leader alleged that the government ignored fans inside the House as it is the election symbol of the YSRC.
“Of course, the Assembly and Council have central air conditioning facility. However, the government should have installed fans as most of the Assemblies, despite having air-condition facility, have fans,” he said.
Meanwhile, with about 225 public representatives including 175 MLAs and 58 MLCs are expected to find their way to the Assembly and Council halls located on the the premises of the Interim Government Complex, all roads leading to Velagapudi are expected to be jam-packed with vehicles from Monday until the end of the Budget session.
To ensure proper security to the VIPs and smooth flow of vehicles of the people’s representatives, police are keeping tight vigil in and around the IGC and also on the roads leading to the IGC from Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and Guntur.
Governor arrives
Governor E S L Narasimhan landed in Vijayawada city on Sunday. Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy, Krishna district in-charge Minister P Pulla Rao, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Koneru Sreedhar and Joint Commissioner of Police P Hari Kumar received the Governor at the Gannavaram airport.
