Man carrying a chisel attacks five passengers on bus in Andhra Pradesh

The 35-year old assailant whipped out his chisel and began slashing other passengers one after the other even as they kept raising an alarm.

KAKINADA: Without any provocation, a carpenter who was travelling in an APSRTC bus to Kakinada from Yeleswaram rose from his seat and slashed five passengers with his chisel late on Wednesday night.

According to police, the 35-year old assailant, Duvvada Srinivasa Rao, whipped out his chisel and began slashing other passengers one after the other even as they kept raising an alarm.

As the bus was nearing Kakinada, Srinivasa Rao first attacked one K G Rani. Rani's husband went in her defence but Rao attacked him too. Meanwhile other passengers tried to overpower him but before they could do it, he slashed them too. 

The passengers, however, managed to hold him still and bound his arms behind his back with his shirt. They then informed the matter to police who rushed to the spot and took the accused into custody. The injured passengers were admitted to a local hospital.

According to Kakinada Three Town ASI A Murali Krishna, the assailant seemed to be mentally disturbed. A case has been registered against Srinivasa Rao and investigation is on.
