VISAKHAPATNAM: Despite stiff opposition from the students’ organisations and Opposition parties over the venue for the TDP Mahanadu slated for May 27, the party has made it clear that there is no going back on the Andhra University Engineering College grounds as the venue. The party activists performed ‘Bhoomi Puja’ at the venue on Friday.

AU student unions and some political parties have submitted a memorandum to the III-Town police, demanding booking of cases against the persons conducting Mahanadu on the Andhra University Engineering College grounds.  The student unions have alleged that the TDP cadre had been digging the grounds, giving  two hoots to the GO that prohibits political or religious events on varsity campus.
However, the AU officials said that they had received permission for the event.
AU vice- chancellor G Nageswara Rao said that after Andhra University Engineering College grounds was selected as the Mahanadu venue, they wrote to the Higher Education department asking whether they could allow the event.
“The venue was selected considering all aspects including the CM’s security. Moreover, as the summer vacations are on, the department accorded the permission,” the V-C said.
