Farmers: Compensation inadequate for land taken for Kakinada SEZ

KAKINADA : Tension prevailed for sometime at Ramanakkapeta village in Uppada Kothapalli mandal on Saturday, when the farmers whose lands have been taken for the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ), tried to take over their lands.The farmers said the government has not paid adequate compensation to them. Meanwhile, the police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the farmers.

On Friday, the police detained CPM district secretary Duvva Sesha Babji. The CPM activists staged a protest at Indrapalem police station against the high-handedness of police. The police released Sesha Babji but put him under house arrest. The police bundled 15 Left party leaders and farmers into vehicles and shifted them to police station on Friday.

CPM leader Mortha Rajasekhar, CPI leader Thokala Prasad, RPI leader Ithabattula Rajeswara Rao and New Democracy party leader J Venkateswarlu staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate to protest against the arrest of party leaders. The police released the Left party leaders and farmers on Saturday evening.
